If the cruise ships want to offer Antigua to their guests, they should educate them about why they must anchor away from the bay and the reefs. Maybe naive, but I think the majority of the guests would respect this. Allowing jet skis show's a lack of respect for everyone and everything in the Bay. I can't believe Antigua still does not understand, once it's all dirty, damaged and dead, the cruise ships will stop coming and the tourism money will end anyway. Maybe they're banking on having Barbuda secured as a backup destination by then...Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35742388.post-35771091035455040452014-10-15T16:36:11.039-04:002014-10-15T16:36:11.039-04:00It is all quite sad. But call for a couple of moorings and legislation that prohibits them anchoring would force the issue.
I think that is how to proceed. I hear the hum and smell the exhaust in my bedroom and I do not even live on the sea. We listen to the announcements and hear the music and the entertainment. It is disruptive not only to wildlife but to the residents who now have a floating hotel in their backyard. Jet ski, and other disturbing activities should be banned from the harbor. There is a constant high pitched humming noise that comes from that boat that is 24hrs around the clock. Also when the wind is in the right direction we get those wonderful exhaust fumes which cannot be healthy for the kids nor anyone else who lives out here!Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35742388.post-69959753779224904062014-03-07T00:09:56.974-04:002014-03-07T00:09:56.974-04:00Good stuff Eli. All these vessels anchor here
when they can.Also many, superyachts
anchor in that area.
check with John Bently, get his views. He and i both remember the days when Falmouth was a bay without a boat in it.flight carsonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09082095931768488984noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-35742388.post-6303217845259289112014-03-06T18:39:53.430-04:002014-03-06T18:39:53.430-04:00The question that springs to my mind is no whether...The question that springs to my mind is no whether they went aground but who was in command and on watch...as the weather and wind was a bit "squirly" that day.
I would have thought that ANY vessel in that spot would be on a raised level of caution considering the vessels size along with the restricted area for manoeuvrings she is lying in.
And that is before any consideration of kicking up silt, just good seamanship!Nemonoreply@blogger.com
